CAP UK - A cracker of a service!

In the words of one of our members "It was a cracker of a service today!".

It was another of our "Own Arrangement" services where members of the church family took responsibility for leading worship.  As it was our Table Top sale yesterday, we decided to leave the tables in church and to have cafe style church where we started the service with coffee and biscuits.

The service provided another opportunity for us to look at some of the hymns in the new hymn book, Singing the Faith and it was great that three of our young folk and one not so young brought their guitars to accompany two of the new songs - Light of the World and In Christ alone.  More awesome was that our very young picked up the tambourines and did a great job at keeping time.   Johnny and Katherine led our prayers of adoration and confession and Chloe led our prayers for others.

Margaret read Matthew 25 31:46 and John read Luke 16 v 10-11 and 13

Rachel, one of our members, works for Christians Against Poverty (UK) - CAP(UK) - and she gave a very moving talk, which included a short video, about what they do and how we can help. Our Church Council had agreed that the loose cash offering would be donated to CAP(UK); the final figure is still to be confirmed by our Treasurer.

Another of our members commented at the end of the service that it was "just like being with the family".  It certainly was good to worship together as a church family.  We hope you will join us for Sunday worship soon.

If you are struggling with debt and would like us to pray for you, please contact us.  We urge you to seek the support of CAP(UK); they can transform your life.

Open our hearts, Lord,
and kindle within them
the flame of your own compassion,
that we may give ourselves afresh
to the needs of the community in which you have set us
and to the service of the world which Christ has redeemed.
We pray for the many who are trapped by growing burdens of debt,
who see no way out, and who despair for their future:
give them courage to tackle the problems they face,
clarity in taking decisions which will turn their situation around,
and faith that, as they cry to you in their trouble,
you will deliver them from their distress.
