Commemorating World War 1

Photograph by Ros Crosland Photography used by permission. Lord God, Father of all, keep us ever mindful of the struggles  and achievements of former generations, and of this place where we make our home, now, and in the days to come. Strengthen our hearts, hands, and minds to work together for peace; to see you in one another; and to seek your kingdom above all things; that your will may be seen to be done and your kingdom come, through Jesus Christ,  the Lord of lords and King of kings. Amen --- We Shall Keep the Faith by Moina Michael, November 1918 Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields, Sleep sweet - to rise anew! We caught the torch you threw And holding high, we keep the Faith With All who died. We cherish, too, the poppy red That grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies, But lends a lustre to the red Of the flower that blooms above the dead In Flanders Fields

Coffee, Cake and Chat

At our January Church Council meeting, we were asked to explore setting up a Leadership Team; however, after several discussions and in the spirit of Team TMC, we decided that a better way forward was to have open and informal discussions for all the church family to suggest ways forward and to contribute in different ways to sharing the inevitable workload that comes with running a family home, in our case a rather large and aging church building. So, Coffee, Cake and Chat was born! We had our first gathering this week and shared lovely conversations. Various points were raised and discussed, including windows, painting and drains, the layout and use of banners and notice boards in church, prayer trees, and ways in which our younger members (the teenagers associated with the church family) could get together for fellowship and mutual support.   It was suggested that Take A Second (our informal worship/fellowship session that takes place on the second Sunday of the month a

A break for Table Top Sales

Our first Table Top Sale was back in February 2012! It seems like only yesterday. Our intention was always to serve the community by providing tables for free, and they went from strength to strength through to 2013. However, at the beginning of 2014 the small group of organisers were unsure they could sustain them due to age and health issues. The good news was that more helpers came forward and Table Top Sales were set to continue. Unfortunately, though, 2014 has seen a drop in the take-up of tables; there are so few for the May sale that we have had to cancel it. We are, therefore, sensing that Table Top Sales have run their course and that God has other plans for us. We're not sure what they are yet, but we've decided to take a break from Table Top Sales until God reveals His will to us. We'll review things in the Autumn. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Table Top Sales; your support is immensely appreciated. If you have suggestions for other

Journey of the cross

Each week in Lent we decorate the cross with symbols of Christ's life: 1st Sunday of Lent – a bag containing 10 pieces of silver - remembering the betrayal by Judas ( Mark 14:10-11 ); 2nd Sunday of Lent – a basin and towel - remembering Jesus washing the disciples feet ( John 13:10-17 ): 3rd Sunday of Lent – a cup - remembering Jesus's humanity ( Matthew 10:40-42 ); 4th Sunday of Lent – a whip - remembering that Jesus was flogged ( Mark 14:63-65 ); 5th Sunday of Lent – a crown of thorns and a purple drape - remembering Jesus's humiliation as soldiers mocked him as king of the Jews ( Mark 15:16-20 ). On Palm Sunday when we remember Jesus's journey into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey with the crowds waving palm branches and shouting "Hosanna" ( John 12:12-15 ). This takes us into Holy Week. On Maundy Thursday we remember the Last Supper ( Mark 14:12-26 ) when Jesus shared bread and wine with His disciples. Good Friday is a day for reflection on Chris

All are welcome! Birthday bash review

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place. Marty Haugen, Singing the Faith 409 What a fabulous birthday weekend! We have welcomed numerous visitors from near and far; some were married in our church, some baptised here, most had links of one sort or another. One lady brought her Sunday School Prize from 1939 to show us - how fantastic is that? On Saturday we held an open day with a rolling display of photos projected on the screen, and table displays of old documents, bibles and photos from church members and from some of many of the organisations that regularly meet in our premises, including Jigsaw, See & Know, Men’s Forum and Boys Brigade. We had a wall display of photos, letters and articl

Table Top Sales set to continue

Table Top Sales were one of our successes of 2013; however, at the beginning of the year, for a variety of reasons, the small group of organisers were unsure that they could sustain these through 2014. The good news is that at its February meeting our Church Council recognised the strength and worth of our table top sales for serving our community and with a few more volunteers stepping forward table top sales are set to continue with a view to reviewing the position again in June. Our intention was always to serve the community by providing tables for free. We are over joyed that so many join us each month. The lounge is always buzzing with conversation over coffee and bacon butties. As an added bonus we have found that kitchen and stall proceeds have provided us with a regular income of around £100 per month towards our redevelopment project. This has been critical in helping us to raise the required £40,000 in just over a year! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you to everyone
