Team TMC 2012 Roundup

It’s been a busy year for Team TMC - here’s a quick round-up of some of the events in 2012 ...

Table Top Sales

2012 saw the start of our monthly Table Top Sales.  Our stallholders have commented on the calm and peaceful environment our church provides and they’ve come back again and again!  Lots of people from the local community have supported us and it’s been great that passersby have seen the doors open and popped in to take a look at the church where they married or grew up!  We’ve also made a steady income to support the upkeep of our buildings and the aroma of bacon butties is never far away.

Charitable donations

We’re always conscious of the need to support others and these are just some of our fund-raising efforts during 2012:
  • £279.88 during FairTrade fortnight.
  • £88.91 collection for Methodist Homes Sunday.
  • £363.15 for Breast Cancer Care.
  • £361.51 for Help the Heroes from our contributions to Thackley’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration.

Community relations

We’ve been working hard to develop relationships within our local community and with our community groups.  We were delighted to join in with the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and it was an absolute joy to see the church near full to capacity for Tony’s Karate club’s demonstration.  Our wives group celebrated 50 years and the Guides’ sleepover and leading of worship was a real hit.
We were sorry to see the closure of Thackley Bambini; however, as one door closes another opens and we were delighted that Elaine felt called to start a “See and Know” group.

One highlight of the year was our first Scarecrow Festival and what a weekend it was.

We were looking forward to participating in the Thackley Christmas Light switch on and were really disappointed that a breakdown in communications prevented this. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make amends next year.

Worship

Worship during 2012 has been inspiring.  We’ve welcomed new members, explored God’s plans for us, designed Good News logos and heard more about the work of CAP UK.

In August we said "Goodbye" to our minister, Rev Keith Hunt, and were a little apprehensive about the impact a team ministry would have on our worship. We have been richly blessed and have possibly had more services led by an ordained minister than in the past. Our team approach to dealing with the increased number of own arrangement services has also paid dividends allowing us to explore different ways of worship. A huge positive is the emergence of the Team TMC "band" and the display of talent amongst our young people.

Church Family

Our Church Family Weekend at Abbot Hall provided the perfect environment for some us to recharge our batteries and draw closer together as a church family.

As with all families we have also faced times of sadness and during 2012 we mourned the deaths of Joan Rawlinson, Joyce Holdsworth, Maria Newsham, Nina Holloway, Nick Dowling and Mike Terry.  Our prayers are with their families as they face a new year without their precious loved ones.

As always, we are forever looking forward to the future, and we end the year looking forward to what God is calling us to do in 2013 through Vision TMC.

2012 has been full of blessings.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Team TMC’s success.
